River Run Fun – It Could Be You!

Helmeteers of 2018 have an opportunity to run at the Chippenham River Run 5k next Wednesday, 3rd July. We have a prize of an entry for both the 5k run and the kids fun run going on offer, but it’s happening next week so you’ll have to be quick.

If you ran in our 2018 event and you’re interested in this opportunity and can go to the event next Wednesday evening, please email robin@orangehelmetevents.org.uk to register your interest. We’ll pull a winner on Sunday and let you know who’s going to join us there.

New Backer and Latest News

We’re delighted to introduce our latest supporter, Plymouth based Beaver Teeth Services who offer plant hire services to deal with tree roots and similar problems and are expanding week by week to offer new services. Owner Darren understands recovery from tumours all too well and is supporting our event as well as taking part. We look forward to welcoming him on the night.

We’ve also taken delivery or our race bibs and signage and expect delivery of our new hi vis waistcoats for our helpers this week too. A trip to the pottery this week also proved to be a positive one with good progress being made on your event mementos and prizes.

Our opportunity for shoppers at Waitrose in Warminster to donate their green tokens to us remains in place until the end of the month, so please keep supporting us as you’ve been great so far. We’re the slot in the middle.

We completed our 4th Helmet themed parkrun at Shepton Mallet last week. It’s been great going on the road at Melksham, Southwick, Chippenham and Shepton Mallet and being able to create awareness of why we’re doing this and our grateful thanks go to everyone who has helped make this possible, including event partner Running Guy who provided the prizes.

Entries are coming in nicely and we’re making space for 175 participants this year. We’ve still got places available for free if you are raising a minimum of £100 plus gift aid for Brain Tumour Support. If you’re interested in this we’ll kit you out with a charity t shirt or vest to keep and you’ll run for free. Please get in touch if you’re interested.

Finally, we’re also working to report some exciting news of another donation, details of which will follow over the next few days.

We All Like Prizes Right?

After a few hiccups, we’ve finally got our winner of the second complimentary place for the Hazelbury Hurrah which was donated by Corsham Running Club. Dave Perrett from Frome was our lucky winner picked at random yesterday and he has confirmed he is available so once again our thanks to Corsham RC for their generosity.

Don’t forget, the complimentary Chippenham Harriers River Run and Fun run places are still there to be won until the end of the month, just email us your interest to robin@orangehelmetevents.org.uk putting the title of the email as River Run to be in with a chance of winning both of these entries. The date of the event is Wednesday 3rd July, so please ensure you are available to run before applying.

In the meantime we’ve been promised a good number of prizes for our event this year and once again it’s fantastic to have the support of the donors, we can’t thank them enough. (Actually we can and are currently setting up a page which we’ll reveal once it’s ready) There are all sorts of prizes ranging from bottles to race entries, running related prizes and massages, all well worth having.

Once again, your ticket is your race number bib though the format will be slightly different in that we won’t be holding a long raffle after the race, instead we’ll draw numbers while you’re all running and have the prizes ready for when you get back. You’ll filter through the finish line area, collect your goody bag and be able to pop up to the bar to see if you’ve been a lucky winner and get yourself a well earned drink before heading back down where you can join us for the social and BBQ. Once the last runner is in we’ll present the prizes for 1st male and female and the Best Helmet and do the thank yous.

Chippenham Helmet parkrun

We had a great welcome and a great time at Chippenham parkrun last Saturday, thanks everyone. We’re on the road again this weekend, this time at Shepton Mallet. See you at Collett Park for a 9 am start and don’t forget your helmet, or your barcode! Don’t forget we’re giving away a place for our August event to the best helmet taking part.

Once again we’d like to thank our event partner Running Guy for donating the prizes for our  parkrun tour this year.

Latest news – what a fortnight it’s been!

With two months to go until event night, the last couple of weeks have been satisfying ones on the back of some hard legwork.

It got off to a great start when we learned we had been chosen as one of the Community Matters projects by Waitrose in Warminster where shoppers can choose to support us with their green tokens they get at the till.  We’re the pot in the middle. Thank you to those doing this, please tell your friends about us being there as an option.

We followed this up by giving an interview to the Warminster Journal who ran a story about the event which coincided nicely with the token appeal. Remember, our collection is there for the whole of June, so still plenty of time left to support us.

We’ve also had further cash injections from donors which has helped with set up costs and boosted the amount we give to Brain Tumour Support. Some of this has funded items essential to our event for this year and into the future, signs and a timer being things we have had to borrow in the past. Be assured, we take our outgoings very seriously, keeping them to an absolute minimum to ensure no money is wasted in running the event to ensure we can pass the maximum amount possible to the charity. The race bibs are also on order and our race permit has arrived, along with permission from Wiltshire council.

In addition, we ‘ve had a very positive meeting with Westbury Cricket Club who are looking forward to hosting us again this year. They will be providing bar facilities pre and post run and will be doing a barbeque for us all too. Please support them on the night as our custom will help their club funding.

Don’t forget you can still join Team BTS1000 and run for free! We’re looking for 10 runners for this team and we still have some spaces left. The deal is simple. Sign up for Hilly Helmet then pledge to raise £100 (plus gift aid). Turn up on race night with your completed sponsor form and cash and we will refund your entry fee and give you a Brain Tumour Support t shirt or vest to run in and keep. Please get in touch to let us know so we can ensure you get the right size vest or t shirt to wear on the night.

Don’t forget we’re still giving race places away for Hazelbury Hurrah in Corsham next month and the Chippenham River Run and Fun Run. Please see items elsewhere on this site to find out how to apply.

Finally, many, many  thanks so far to everyone who has entered or donated prizes or has offered their time to help on the night. Without you and all the goodwill, we wouldn’t be here. Please tell your friends, we’d love to see them on the night too!

Calling All Helmeteers From 2018

We’re really buzzing for the third running of Hilly Helmet this year and entries are coming along nicely and if you ran with us last year, here’s an extra bonus.

We were very kindly donated complimentary entries for this years’ Chippenham River Run by Chippenham Harriers as a prize for our race bib raffle in 2018. The prize was won by Jordon Bygrave who now finds himself on holiday with his family and is unable to attend so has kindly donated it back to us. The event will  be held on Thursday July 3rd at Monkton Park, Chippenham.

The prize is a place in the 5k race (13 years old minimum age) plus an entry into the 2k fun run for under 15s. The winner will receive both of these entries. This prize is now on offer to all who participated in last years’ Hilly Helmet as we really want to see our Helmeteers enjoying the prizes we are donated.

Eligibility is simple, applicants MUST be able to make the event date using both entries if possible and the places are not transferrable as they are complimentary. There is no alternative cash prize.

If you ran last year and CAN make the event, we’d love for you to win, so please register your interest by email to: robin@orangehelmetevents.org.uk

Please entitle your emails River Run.

We really want to give this prize to somebody who will enjoy it so hope to see a good response to this opportunity. Emails requests can be made until Friday 28th June and the winner will be announced on Saturday 29th June.

Second Hazelbury Hurrah Runner Confirmed

You’ll recall we drew two winners and reserves for the two places for this event on the weekend. One of our winners, Ian Holmes of Frome Running Club, was delighted to accept the place and is looking forward to taking it on next month. Things didn’t go quite so smoothly with the second prize however as  the winner and both reserves were unable to accept as they were unable to attend the event.

It was decided to do another draw this week and the winner selected at random was Westbury runner Terri Duddy who is also thrilled to be a winner and is looking forward to also joining the event on the night.

Don’t worry if you missed out, there will be a number of race entries awarded randomly in our race bib raffle at our event in August, so you could still be a winner. That is if you don’t already feel like a winner by backing our event and helping to support our charity Brain Tumour Support.

Once again, our thanks go to our HH cousins at Corsham Running Club for their support.

Hazelbury Hurrah! Winners Announced

We’re pleased to announce the lucky winners of the two race entries kindly  donated to us by our friends at Corsham Running Club. The winners were drawn at random yesterday by a random number selection process. Additionally, two reserves were drawn in case the first two people drawn were not able to use the entries.

The winners were:

Ian Holmes and Paul Castle.

The two reserves drawn were:

Jackie Hall and Richard Wood

Ian has run Hilly Helmet both times so far and is signed up for his hat trick this year and we’re looking forward to seeing him (and you) back for it. He was thrilled to win his Hazelbury Hurrah prize and is looking forward to running there in July.

Sadly, our second winner Paul is unable to make the Corsham event  so the place was offered to our first reserve Jackie, who is also signed up for her Hilly Helmet Hat Trick  this year. Amazingly, she is also unable to take part so the place has been offered to our second reserve Richard Wood. (Glad we picked two reserves!)

We’re now waiting for confirmation he is able to make use of the place and if he cannot we’ll work out another way to make it available again.

In the meantime we’d like to offer up a big Hilly Helmet Thank You to Corsham Running Club for their generosity in donating these prizes.

Chippenham helmet parkrun – Don’t forget your barcode! (or your helmet)

After two nice runs at Melksham and Southwick parkruns, we’re coming to Chippenham parkrun on Saturday June 8th for the penultimate run of our ‘Helmet on the Road’ tour.

With our August event just over 2 months away, there’s still plenty of time to get weaving on your helmet design and our parkrun events have been a good chance to get in a run or two to get some confidence  running in headgear other than a cap or beanie hat.  Remember, the best helmet at Chippenham parkrun will win an entry into the Hilly Helmet Challenge in August. We look forward to seeing you on the 8th at 9am. Don’t forget your helmet!
